Archive North Off-Grid Rentals
Equipment Rental Agreement
1. The agreement
This agreement is between you (the "renter") and Archive North Technologies Inc., operating as Archive North Off-Grid Rentals ("we", "us"). It applies to every rental of portable power and cooling equipment booked through this site. By accepting it when you book you agree to these terms for the booking you are making. Accepting this agreement is a condition of renting: we do not rent equipment without it.
2. What you are renting
You are renting the package shown on your booking: a portable battery power station with folding solar panels, an electric cooler, or both together, along with the cables and accessories we supply. Equipment is rented by package, not by make or model, and we may supply equivalent equipment of similar capability. Photographs on this site are a representation of the equipment rather than a picture of the exact unit you receive.
3. Rental period
Your rental runs from the start date to the return date shown on your booking. A weekend rental runs from Friday afternoon through Monday morning. Handover and return times are arranged with you by email once the booking is confirmed. Pickup, delivery, and returns run Monday to Saturday. We are closed Sundays.
If you need the equipment for longer, contact us before your return date and we will extend the booking if it is not already reserved. Equipment kept past the agreed return time without an approved extension is charged at the applicable extra-day rate for each additional day or part of a day.
4. Pickup, delivery, and return
Pickup in Chilliwack is free, from either of our two pickup points. You choose one when you book and tell us roughly when suits you, which is a preference rather than a reserved time slot: we confirm the exact address and a time with you once the booking is in. Local delivery is available within Chilliwack proper, and collection at the end of the rental can be added. Delivery covers Chilliwack proper: anywhere inside City of Chilliwack limits, including downtown, Sardis, Vedder Crossing, and Promontory. Outside the city (Cultus Lake, Agassiz, Harrison, Hope), pickup in Chilliwack is free.
Some pickup points are hosted by local businesses we partner with. They hold the equipment and hand it over on our behalf, at their own premises and during their own opening hours. They are not Archive North locations. Your rental is still our responsibility, and questions about it come to us. A partner location's opening hours may limit when a handover or return can happen, and we tell you those hours when we confirm your time.
Equipment goes out charged, tested, and complete, and we walk you through it at handover. Please return it in the same condition, with all cables and accessories, and reasonably clean.
5. Using the equipment safely
Battery power stations produce no exhaust and are safe to operate indoors, unlike a fuel generator. Keep the power station dry and out of standing water. The solar panels are made to be outside; the station is not. Stay within the output ratings marked on the unit, which we go over at handover.
How long a charge lasts depends entirely on what you plug in, so we do not promise any particular runtime, and solar output depends on sun, season, shade, and panel placement. Solar is a top-up, not a guaranteed recharge. Do not rely on rented equipment for medical devices or anything else where a loss of power would be dangerous.
6. What you agree not to do
You agree not to: sublet, lend, or transfer the equipment to anyone else; use it for any unlawful purpose; take it outside British Columbia without our written agreement; open, modify, or attempt to repair it; expose it to submersion or deliberate abuse; or connect it to a building's permanent electrical wiring. Any wiring into a structure must be done by a qualified electrician and is outside what this rental covers.
7. Damage, loss, and theft
You are responsible for the equipment from the moment it is handed to you until the moment it is handed back to us. Normal wear from ordinary use is expected and is not charged for. Beyond normal wear, you cover the full cost of repair or, where the equipment cannot reasonably be repaired, replacement at replacement value, for loss, theft, or damage from any cause while the equipment is in your care. That includes damage caused by misuse or submersion, and theft from wherever you keep it.
Tell us as soon as anything goes wrong. We would far rather swap a unit than have you troubleshoot it, and problems reported early are almost always easier to resolve fairly. We will show you what any repair or replacement costs are. A refundable security hold may be required on some bookings. Where one applies, the amount is disclosed to you before it is taken, never afterwards.
8. If something is not right
If the equipment does not work as it should through no fault of yours, contact us and we will repair or replace it, or refund the affected part of your rental. That repair, replacement, or refund is the only remedy we offer, and section 9 sets out the limits that apply beyond it.
9. Assumption of risk and exclusion of liability
The equipment is provided as-is. You assume all risk arising from the rental and use of the equipment. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Archive North Technologies Inc. is not liable for any loss, damage, injury, cost, or expense of any kind, whether direct, indirect, or consequential, arising from or connected to the rental or the equipment, including malfunction or failure of the equipment. Without limiting that, we are not liable for lost income, spoiled food, missed work, or the cost of alternative arrangements. Acceptance of this agreement, including this section, is a condition of renting.
Nothing in this agreement limits any right you have under the British Columbia Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act or other applicable consumer protection law to the extent that right cannot be excluded by agreement.
10. Limitation period
No claim shall be brought against Archive North Technologies Inc., whether in contract or in tort, more than five years after the rental was completed or terminated.
11. Claims against the company only
This agreement is with Archive North Technologies Inc.. You agree that, as your sole and exclusive remedy under this agreement, any claim, demand, or suit arising from the rental or the equipment shall be directed or asserted only against Archive North Technologies Inc., and not against any of its employees, officers, or directors.
12. No personal liability
The employees, officers, and directors of Archive North Technologies Inc. have no personal liability to you in respect of any claim arising from the rental or the equipment, whether in contract, tort, or any other cause of action. You agree to bring no proceedings and to take no action against any of them in their personal capacity.
13. Cancellations and changes
Plans change and we would rather know early. Contact us as soon as you can and we will work out a refund, credit, or new dates with you. Cancellations close to the start of a booking are harder to fill, so a portion of the rental fee may be retained. Delivery charges are refunded in full whenever the delivery has not yet happened. Our full cancellation practice is confirmed with you at booking.
We may refuse or cancel any booking at our discretion, before or after confirmation, for any reason. If we do, we tell you as soon as we reasonably can and refund in full every amount you have paid for that booking. That refund is the whole of our responsibility for a booking we refuse or cancel.
14. Payment
Rental fees are in Canadian dollars. Your booking shows the amount owed and how it is collected. Unless your booking says it was paid online, payment is collected at handover. Where online payment is offered, it is processed by Stripe, and we do not receive or store your card details.
15. Your information
We collect your name, email, phone number, and rental details to arrange the booking and to contact you about it. We do not sell your information. See our privacy policy for how it is handled.
16. Subsequent rentals
These terms also govern any later rental we make to you for which no fresh agreement is issued, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
17. Severability
If any provision of this agreement is held invalid or unenforceable, that provision is severed and the remainder of the agreement is unaffected and continues in force.
18. Governing law and forum
This agreement is governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the laws of Canada that apply there. Any legal action or proceeding arising from this agreement, the rental, or the equipment shall be brought exclusively in the courts of British Columbia, Canada.
19. Changes to this agreement
We may change this agreement at any time on reasonable notice, given by publishing an updated version on this site or by email. The version in force for your booking is the version you accepted when you booked, which is recorded with your booking, so a change never applies retroactively to a booking already made. A change applies to bookings made after it takes effect, and booking again means you accept the version current at that time.
